Twice a week I get our vacuum out of the hallway closet and do what
millions of other do to keep the house clean. I vacuum the floors.
Our current vacuum is a Bissell. We got it as a wedding present when
we got married almost 5 years ago, and it has been through a lot of
abuse! We have never changed the filters, only cleaned them off a bit.
We have taken it outside to use as a shop vac. And during some
remodeling in our old house, we even used it to suck up blown-in
insulation during some of the demolishing.
For the last two years, we know we have been having a problem with
our vacuum getting enough sucking power, but I kept having to dump a
bunch of dirt and dog hair into the garbage each time I vacuumed, so I
figured it wasn’t that bad.
Until today…..
Our vacuum finally started to overheat the past two times when I
tried to clean and my husband was tired of having to pull out clog after
clog because of its crappy performance, so we broke down and finally
decided to buy a new one.
We made a small family outing out of it and went to Wal-Mart, looking
over all the different options. We bought another Bissell, since I
heard Dirt Devil sucks… or I mean “doesn’t suck”… well, you know what I
mean.
We took it home and my husband put it together for me, since he is
our family’s official “assembler”. I plugged it in and started going
over the living room, which I had just vacuumed with our old vacuum
right before we left to buy the new one.
All I can say is “Oh my God!”
I emptied it 5 times! It just kept filling over and over with dirt
filled clumps of dog hair. The more I vacuumed the more ashamed I felt
at having been so niave to think my old pathetic excuse for a vacuum was
cleaning anything!
The only thing I can say is that after I was done today, I was able
to sit down on our couch and watch our 3 year old wrestle with our dog
and know that
this time the floor she was rolling around on was clean.
