AT&T to step up iPhone device tier on October 4th – iPhone 5 launch date?

A potentially tasty treat of information has made its way from AT&T via 9to5Mac. In the past couple of weeks it was announced that the iPhone would be covered by the carrier’s standard insurance, no longer requiring a pricier premium. At $4.99 per month, it’s almost daft not to get it. However, according to the latest report, the iPhone’s device tier is set to be raised. This will increase the price of its insurance from $4.99 per month to $6.99. October 4th is the date pencilled in for the increase.

What’s interesting about this is that it falls around the time we’re expecting to see the next generation iPhone. The iPhone 5 is speculated to be on its way in September/October. So, is AT&T planning the increase to take advantage of the millions of customers it expects to sign up for the next generation Apple handset?
