AT&T international data roaming charges being cut 2011

Travelling abroad is expensive. Whether it’s the air fare, poor exchange rates or simply being unable to haggle in the native tongue, it is not cheap. To top it all off, when you get home you have an expensive bill sat in your mail telling you how many billions of dollars you’ve spent on accidentally having your 3G data roaming switched on.
Thankfully, AT&T is cutting its data roaming charges (as you can see from the image above.) The changes are set to be made on July 17th and appear to offer a huge difference in value. The four current data add-ons (20MB, 50MB, 100MB, 200MB) are being replaced by 50MB, 125MB, 275MB and 800MB ones. The lower add-on remains at $24.99, while the others are dropped to $49.99, $99.99 and $199.99 respectively. The big talking point, for me, is the huge difference in overage costs. Instead of paying $5 per MB, you get charged $10 for each 10MB of usage. Essentially, in the old plan 10MB overage would costs $50, so you’re saving $40.
For any of you planning to take your iPhones abroad, this could be the best piece of news you’ll hear this summer. Unless you’re going on vacation in the next couple of days that is.
