A
few days later Tommy came to the Haunted House with a letter addressed
to me. It was from Alexa, my friend back home. We used Tommy’s address
since the Haunted House doesn’t have one.
This is what Alexa wrote:
OMG! Ivy!
I
can’t believe you’re alive! Well, not alive but you know what I mean!
I’ve missed you so much! When your body disappeared, your parents said
they had you cremated, but I didn’t believe them! I was hoping ever
since I found out you died you would become a zombie! These last few
months have been pure torture without my bestie! My parents miss you too
and when I told them about you, they were so happy! And don’t worry; I
didn’t mention your letter to your parents just like you asked. Can I
please visit? I need to see you! It’s our senior year and it’s no fun
without you! Oh, and the guy who shot you is in jail for life since he
committed three crimes. But enough with the bad memories! You MUST let
me visit! But, of course you will! I know you miss me too!
With love from your bestie,
Alexa ♥
“Would it . . . be okay . . . if my friend . . . visited . . . sometime?” I asked when I finished reading the letter.
“Of course, Ivy! Anytime she wants!” Karen answered excitedly.
“Is it . . . okay with . . . everyone . . . else?” They all nodded their heads slowly in answer to my question.
“We would love to have . . . your friend visit. Especially if . . . it makes you happy.”
“Aw . . . Thanks, Tommy.”
Later that day I used Phoebe’s cell phone to call Alexa. It was great to hear her voice again. I missed her so much.
“Hi, Alexa . . . It’s Ivy.”
“No way! I’m so glad to hear from you!” She squealed.
“I just . . . got your . . . letter. Sorry . . . I’m not . . . a very . . . fast . . . talker.”
“Oh, I don’t care! I’m just glad I can still talk to you!”
“They said . . . you can . . . visit . . . whenever . . . you want.”
“They?”
“The other . . . zombies.”
“Oh. I can’t wait to see you! I miss you so much! Can I come tomorrow?”
“Hold on.” I put my hand over the mouthpiece. “Is . . . tomorrow . . . okay?”
“Of course, Ivy. We said . . . whenever,” Tommy replied.
“Thanks.” I spoke back into the phone, “Tomorrow . . . would be . . . great.”
“Yay! It’s going to be awesome! Where should I go?”
“You
can meet . . . us at the . . . school . . . around noon.” Tommy and I
previously planned where to meet Alexa, and Adam agreed to drive us back
to the Haunted House.
“Okay,
great! My parents could take me! They really want to see you too! They
say the house is too quiet without their ‘other daughter.’” They always
called me that since I spent more time at their house than my own. I
practically lived there.
“I will . . . see you . . . tomorrow.”
“Okay. Bye!”
“Bye.”
I hung up the phone and handed it back to Phoebe. I was really happy
I’d get to see Alexa soon. Tomorrow couldn’t come quickly enough. If I
had the ability to sleep, I would have gone to sleep early so time would
pass more quickly. I listened to the music playing on the sound system
and just sat in a corner waiting for tomorrow to come.
The
day finally arrived. I convinced Adam to get us to the school early
because I had a feeling Alexa wouldn’t be able to wait until noon. I was
right. She got there at eleven thirty. She practically jumped out of
the car. She ran to me and gave me a huge hug. I slowly hugged her back.
We stayed like that for a few minutes. When she finally let go, she
just stared at me. We didn’t speak for a minute.
“I can’t believe it’s really you!” she finally spoke. “You look great!”
“Sure . . . I do. How . . . can you . . . say that? I’m . . . dead.”
“I can say that because it’s true. Really, you don’t look that dead.”
“That dead? . . . I’m hurt.”
“You
know what I mean! Of, course you look dead, just not as dead as a lot
of other zombies. You can’t even see where you got shot!”
“That’s
. . . because I . . . was shot . . . in the chest. And I . . . got what
. . . you meant. I was just . . . kidding. Even . . . though I’m . . .
dead, I can . . . still joke.”
“Well, of course! You
are still you.”
“Hello, Ivy. It’s really great to see you again!” Mrs. Sander told me.
“We’ve really missed you,” Mr. Sanders added. “And are you going to introduce us to your friends?”
“Oh, yeah. . . This is . . . Tommy and . . . Adam.”
“Hello, great to meet you. I’m Brian Sanders and this is my wife, Meredith.”
“Hey. I’m Adam. Me and Tommy here have become good friends with Ivy.”
“We’ve heard quite a lot about you and your website, Tommy. Alexa really is a big fan.”
“Mom! Stop! You’re embarrassing me!”
“Sorry, honey. I’m glad you two boys are taking good care of our Ivy.”
“It’s no . . . problem. Ivy is . . . great.”
“Oh, we know that! It’s really odd not having her around.”
“Well, why don’t we head to the Haunted House? You guys could follow me there.”
“That’s a great idea, Adam,” Mr. Sanders said.As
we headed to the Haunted House, Tommy said that Alexa seemed nice. I
said that she was the nicest. She really is a true friend.
